As we saw the amazing response to NYC Mate, we were starting to hear from people in other cities that wanted the same app for their city. DC was among one of the cities that people were asking a lot about. We looked into the public transit for DC and found there was the same mediocre public transit apps available to DC but nothing that was incredibly designed and free of charge. We seized this opportunity.
After spending hours chasing down different DC public transit companies for maps that we could use in our DC Mate app, we finally got all the information we needed to apply everything we had done in NYC Mate but make it for DC. Conveniently, we also had a DC local sitting right in our office: Emily. With someone in the know and using the platform we started with NYC Mate, we put together a solution for making public transportation information in DC available to anyone with an iPhone free of charge.
